Pizza Apprentice Program

OVERVIEW:

The Pizza Apprentice program is designed to provide paid training for the entry level cook to teach basic skills of pizza-making from start to finish. The Pizza apprentice will be trained on each step of pizza preparation from food sanitation and dough making to utilizing wood fired cooking techniques and perfecting your favorite pizza. Apprentices will walk away with the comprehensive skills to work independently, as a member of a team, cook pizzas and prepare other food items in a professional setting. Pizza Apprentices who excel will be provided the opportunity of gaining summer employment in Solstice’s culinary program. 

TRAINING CURRICULUM:

  • Setting your kitchen station up for success. 

  • Communication, safety and compliance standards in a professional kitchen. 

  • Prepare pizza dough by mixing, weighing, rolling and stretching. 

  • Prepare ingredients, sauces, and various toppings such as vegetables, cheese, meats and fresh herbs. 

  • Preparing high-quality pizza recipes in a commercial kitchen with a wood-fired oven.

  • Kitchen equipment: use of appliances, knives & wood fired cooking techniques. 

TRAINING DATES:

Tuesday, May 14th 5:00 - 6:00 PM: Orientation + Meet & Greet 

Tuesday, May 21st 4:30 - 6:30 PM: Setting up for success + Pizza Tasting

Monday, June 3rd 4:30 - 6:30 PM:  Dough 101 

Tuesday, June 4th 4:30 - 6:30 PM: Pizza Building & Wood Fire Oven 101

Wednesday, June 12th 4:30 - 6:30 PM: Food Truck Pizza Party 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • One year of previous job experience.

  • Resume, cover letter & references.

  • Must be 16 years of age or older. 

  • Available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week, June 17th - August 30th. 

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States. 

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Self-driven and excited to learn in a fast paced environment. 

  • Ability to work as a team to ensure that food and service meet appropriate standards. 

  • Excellent listening skills and attention to detail. 

 ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Punctual and professional.  

  • Completes job responsibilities and performance objectives in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with Solstice policies and procedures.  

  • Maintains a favorable working relationship with all company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate.

  • At all times provides a favorable image of Solstice to promote its “Wood Fired, Gorge Inspired” philosophy. 

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Prolonged standing, crouching, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting products and supplies weighing 50 lbs, and repetitive hand and wrist motion. 

  • Working with and around hot, cold, and hazardous equipment as well as utilizing kitchen knives and cooking equipment.

  • The ability to communicate and receive feedback in a fast paced, high volume environment. 

SAFETY

  • Knife safety training and enforcing proper knife handling techniques.

  • Trained in basic sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and food storage spaces. 

  • Safety standards for pizza and dough equipment.

  • Trained in clear and effective communication to safely navigate the kitchen.
